LMWQCC Capacity Update (ACT).

Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre (LMWQCC) is 450,000 EP advanced nutrient removal, tertiary treatment plant that services the city of Canberra (ACT).  In 2007, ASpect undertook the process design of the secondary treatment augmentation, which aimed at increasing capacity and improving nitrogen removal performance.  Wet weather events in 2016 suggested that LMWQCC was once again nearing its capacity.  Icon Water engaged ASpect to review these events, determine if they represented capacity shortfalls and, if so, recommend the next step of augmentation.  ASpect updated its detailed process model of the plant to reflect 2016 loadings and operating regimes.  It then simulated the wet weather events and compared the theory to measured reality.  They aligned and suggested that the plant capacity had been exceeded.  ASpect recommended operational adjustments to optimise capacity, but suggested that additional tankage was also required.  It modelled the capacity gains that could be attained from various augmentations and recommended a preferred strategy.
